HOW IT WORKS

How EF Coaching Works

Since every person is unique, each coaching relationship is too! The general framework of my coaching model is multi-layered.

I begin each relationship by interviewing parents to find out what the needs of the student are. I gather data from teachers, educational psychologists, parents and students so I can get a better understanding of the student. During my initial meeting with the student, we determine what has been getting in the way of their academic success and then we jump right in and set some realistic goals. I meet with students once per week for one hour targeting specific goals and making plans for reaching those goals. Then we text, email, Skype, Facetime or chat daily for our check in. This is when I find out how they are doing with their goals and how to solve some problems they might have encountered along the way. Sometimes the daily check-in is a time to applaud their great effort and success while other times, we really need to make some changes in daily habits so they can hit the target.

I ask parents and students to stick with the plan for one grading period so we can have data-based evidence to determine if the interventions are working or not. Generally, students like to keep the coaching relationship going for longer.

This is a rather loose explanation of how the coaching model works. One size does not fit all so I really need to do a lot of detective work in order to help each student uncover their wonderful strengths in order to boost those weakest areas that have been causing them problems in school.
